Synergies in Fitness and Sports

By Ding Reyes

Then SanibLakas Foundation President and Lead Founder of Sanib-Sigla Movement for Holistic Health

Talking points for March 2001 meeting of  founding core of  Sanib-Sigla

CONTEXT:
• Strong belief of growing number of people in Holistic Health, in every human person’s integrated physical, mental, emotional and spiritual growth, where health in one dimension affects health in all other dimensions.

• SanibLakas Foundation’s mission to promote synergism awareness and build synergies in various sectors and areas of concern (e.g. in environmentalism, aesthetics, coops, & human development and harmony), which therefore promotes harmony and teamwork all around and discourages divisions/separativeness, including competitions.

• SanibLakas Foundation’s promotion of “loving all life” (all incarnations of all lifeforms), and the Foundation’s commitment to help build a culture of peace, both oppose infliction of pain (unless absolutely necessary for a noble purpose) on any such life incarnation, as fellow human persons in wars, brawls and other matches, would be viewed as dehumanization or lack of human development. SanibLakas works for the development of enough human maturity to seek non-physical responses and resolu¬tions to non-physical conflicts and grievances.

CONCEPTS/PRINCIPLES:
• Holistic Health – balanced growth of health in all human dimensions (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual) to sustain the growth in each of these dimensions.

• Human Harmony and Teamwork in the attainment of Holistic Health – promotion of mutual help and stake in one another’s health. “Spars, not wars (bouts)”

• Development of self-discipline: It takes courage to resist the temptation to call attention to your courage; it takes strength to resist the temptation to call attention to your strength – and the temptation is big if you have developed strength and physical skills to use it against other people.

PROJECTS/ACTIVITIES:
• Continuing concepts refinement and promotion through consultations with various concerned groups and individuals (health buffs; martial arts students and practition¬ers; sports associations, practitioners, enthusiasts; mountaineering clubs; and the like) and building a Sanib-Sigla campaign network.

• Setting up (or recognition) of a Sanib-Sigla center (centers?) with gym facilities, health food and supplements, meditation and sharing rooms, etc.

• “Bullet-points” texted by Dona T.to contribute to this meeting: “sports that challenge mental and emotional states, with meditation before and after”; “movement meditation”; “nature trips na challenging”; “martial arts”; “drumming”; “survival skills.”

• PROPOSED LAUNCH: “Families’ Fun-Run” (1 km & 5 km) at the QMC or Luneta on May 15, International Day of Families, in the context of World Environment Day 2001-Philippines
