The
Peacecamp Project:
P.E.R.S.P.E.C.T.I.V.E.S
Peacecamp-Masbate's main perspectives are
defined in two major trajectories -- one, the development of a
strong peace constituency within the island province of Masbate,
which is among the poorest provinces of the country; and, two,
the initial development of a multiplicity of local peace camps
in various parts of the country, continually inspired and guided
by the experiences of this year's
Peacecamp-Masbate.
Masbate
is not among the top flashpoints of violence in the country,
especially outside election periods.

This
affords the intensive study of pursuing peace without the
disadvantage of a prevalent condition of armed strife which can
bar such study. At the same time, with poverty a broad
problem, the student participants can motivated to undertake the
study of peace upon social grounds.
Peacecamp-Masbate
is not the first one of this sort of activity, but the
breadth and diversity of its base of facilitators and
participants holds the potential of being a precursor of a
series of peace camps in the Philippines, which can even be
shared by our people with other nations in the Southeast Asian
region and beyond.
